Established in 1852, the V&A is the world's leading museum of art, design and performance with collections unrivaled in their scope and diversity.
Deep bowls with narrow rims were a regional preference from the British Isles. Decorated with pear and grape motif from the Baroque period, this bowl makes a wonderful addition to one's tableware collection.
A Royal Selangor piece exudes an elegant sculptural presence derived from the softness and versatility of pewter which is fashioned in a variety of finishes – a traditional soft satin lustre, a dazzling brilliance that rivals silver or a subdued ‘antique’ finish.
Royal Selangor high quality cast pewter consists of 92% to 97% tin, with a small proportion of copper and antimony added to strengthen the alloy – the highest international standard for pewter. It is heavier and stronger than spun pewter. When struck gently, it produces a resonant sound.
Each piece is hallmarked with Royal Selangor’s maker’s mark, Sn920 for tin content, and the tiger’s head for country of manufacture.
Depending on the finish, pewter can be cleaned using two major methods:
- Wash in warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly and dry immediately with soft flannel.
- Polish as silver, with a good brand of silver polish and soft flannel.
